I just want to make
good films: Aamir Khan

Chennai, Aug 12 (PTI)
Bollywood star Aamir Khan, whose directorial
debut in 'Taare Zameen Par' won him all round
acclaim, said he just wanted to make good films
to entertain moviegoers across the country.
"Audience want something new and different. This
encourages us to handle different subjects",
said Khan, who is here to receive the Gollapudi
Srinivas Memorial Endowment Award for best
debutant director for his movie Taare Zameen
Par.
"It is the film and not the star which pulls
crowds to theatres and contribute to the success
at the box office," Khan told reporters
yesterday.
Pointing out
that many directors had experimented with
different subjects, Khan said, "In Indian
cinema, whether it is Hindi, Tamil or any other
language, I think the primary objective is to
entertain people. Cinema is for entertainment,
it is neither to educate people nor to bring
social change. Perhaps it (cinema) can play a
secondary role as an educator or of social
reformer." When asked about his next movie, Khan
said he was yet to decide on it. "I don't have
any specific subject right now. However, I am
looking for a good story, which will give the
best to the audience", he added.
He also announced that 'Taare Zameen Par' would
be dubbed in Tamil and Telugu. The dubbed
versions, "Val Nakshatram" in Tamil and "Neelamedha
Tharalu" in Telugu, will be released on
September 12 and distributed by leading
entertainment company Pyramid Saimira.
"Lots of parents and teachers especially in
southern states had written to me to dub the
movie in Tamil and Telugu for the benefit of
children," he said. PTI
