Elections to film directors association
postponed

Chennai (PTI): Elections to the Tamil Film
Directors Association here were postponed
indefinitely following differences between
directors and assistant directors.
A Section of directors, headed by noted director
Bharatirajaa claimed that the elections were
postponed following attacks by some
"anti-socials."
"It is the handiwork of some anti-socials,"
Bharathirajaa told reporters here.
Supporters of Bharathirajaa, R C Shakthi and a
contestant on behalf of 'Nalaya Iyakunargal
Sangam' formed by assistant directors contested
the polls.
Association sources said some assistant and
associate directors decided to enter the fray
alleging that their grievances were not
addressed. "Though we had been part of the
association for several years, our grievances
were never really addressed. Hence we chose to
contest the elections" they said.
Since confusion prevailed at the venue as over
250 assistant directors thronged to cast their
votes, police were brought in to pacify the
situation.
Meanwhile, one of the contestants and noted
director R C Sakthi has condemned the
postponement of the polls. Terming it as
'killing of democracy',he said in a statement
here that the Government of Tamilnadu and Film
Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI)
should intervene and take proper steps to soon
conduct the polls.
