Top stars for LG Tamil Nadu Open

Coimbatore: The LG Tamil Nadu Open amateur golf championship, the fourth leg of the LG Indian Amateur Tour, begins at the par-72 Coimbatore Golf Club course in Chettipalayam, near here, on Tuesday. The championship is of great importance to the players as this is the last tournament for them to accumulate points before the probable's for the Nomura Cup is selected. Fresh from his victory in the LG Southern India Open in Bangalore last week, Hyderabad’s Arshdeep Tiwana will be hoping to repeat his winning act when he tees off along with 49 others in one of the most challenging course in the country. Rashid Khan, Karan Vasudeva, Gagan Verma and Pawan Kumar (from Delhi), Abhishek Jha (Bangalore), Moin Malak (Pune), H.S. Kang (Chandigarh) and Jasjeet Singh (Noida) are the other top stars geared up for the big occasion. Rashid, who missed out in Bangalore, is confident of doing well. “It was one messy round in the middle that left me out of contention. I am confident of striking back and making amends here.”

The 22-year-old Arshdeep is also keen to make it two in a row.  “The LG Southern India Open was my maiden win as an amateur. I want to win this time around as well. I know the field is strong with many higher ranked players but I will give it my best shot.” It’s going to be tough test for the golfers to tackle the fast greens and the mighty winds blowing across the course. Besides precious points and some attractive prizes, TaylorMade has announced a gift of a set of holes to the first player to score a hole-in-one on the par-3 14th.
