Mr. Azhagiri assured that the Combined Cauvery Drinking Water Scheme that would benefit seven Panchayat Unions, including Melur, and 155 roadside villages would be implemented at a cost of Rs.291-crores. A samathuvapuram (egalitarian housing colony) would come up at Rs.2.60 crores at Attapatti.  He also said a modern "Eco Park" was coming up at a cost of Rs. 5 crores at the "girivalapathai" (pathway) around the Tiruparankunram hills. Work was on to permanently store water in Mariamman Temple tank at a cost of Rs. 5 crores.  He assured the giant lakes around Madurai such as those in Vandiyur, Madakulam, Veeramudayan and BB Kulam would be deepened to store enough water during rainy season at a cost of Rs. 125 crores.  He distributed welfare schemes and free TV to 10,330 people.  The vegetable market would be ready in four months and have about 1,400 shops, Madurai Corporation Commissioner S. Sebastin said.
