Power supply duration increased for pump sets in Delta region

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister M K. Stalin on Tuesday announced in the state assembly that the duration of power supplied to irrigation pump sets in the delta districts for Kuruvai paddy cultivation will be increased from 10 hours to 16 hours a day.  At present power was supplied six hours during the day and four hours in the night but this will be increased to 12 hours and four hours respectively, in Tanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts, he said.  This was to facilitate irrigation of the Kuruvai (short-term) paddy cultivation since there was a delay in the realisation of water in river Cauvery due to delay in monsoon rains, he said.
