TN identifies sectors for developing tourism

Chennai (PTI): In a bid to give a boost to tourist arrivals in the state, Tamil Nadu government has identified 14 sectors for focus in developing tourism in a big way.

Leisure tourism, Pilgrimage tourism, heritage tourism, adventure tourism, medical tourism and rural tourism were some of the focus areas, state tourism minister N Suresh Rajan told the state assembly on Thursday replying to a debate on the demands for grants for tourism.

 

He said lot of tourists arrived in the state for eco-tourism and to help them a separate division would be created in the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development corporation.

To encourage heritage tourism, state government has decided to give a subsidy of 10 per cent on conversion cost to those who wanted to convert their heritage building as heritage hotel, he said.
