1,500 to present papers at Tamil meet

CHENNAI: A total of 7,356
people from 49 countries had registered for the
research symposium of the World Classical Tamil
Conference and 1,500 registrants would present
papers in the meet, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi
said here on Wednesday. Speaking to reporters
after chairing a special meeting to review the
pace of work for the Tamil meet in Coimbatore,
Karunanidhi said the conference would see
participants from Sri Lanka (91), Canada (23),
the US (44), Australia (15), the UK (18) and
China (4), besides those from India (6,800).
Research abstracts numbering 6,086 had been
received and after scrutiny, it had been decided
to allow 1,500 people to present papers, he
added.

With regard to the Tamil Internet conference, 75
technical research articles had been received and
experts from the US, Canada, Switzerland and Germany
would participate in it, the CM said. Infrastructure
development works at a cost of Rs 300 crore was being
carried out for it, he said. Out of this, Rs 104.40
crore had been allotted for development of roads,
infrastructure and amenities in Coimbatore, Rs 59.85
crore on highway development and Rs 20 crore for the
Semmozhi park, he added.
