CHENNAI: A Tamil writer,
who had claimed that the
storyline of
Rajnikanth-starrer
Enthiran' was stolen
from his story
Jugiba' and lodged a
police complaint on
October 25, has now
approached the Madras
high court demanding Rs
1 crore damages from the
film's producers.
Enthiran, a Sun Pictures
production, was released
in three languages on
October 1 and has been
running to packed houses
since then.
Aarur Tamilnandan,
in his civil suit, said
that he had penned
Jugiba' in 1996 and it
was published in a
magazine Iniya Udayam'
the same year. It was
re-published with his
permission in another
magazine, Thik Thik
Theepika', in 2007, he
said.
Tamilnandan said that
the original story talks
about a scientist,
Robin, and his robot
Jugiba. It also
elaborately deals with
the robots' human
characters and its love
for his creator's
girlfriend, he said.
Reiterating his
allegation that the film
crew had unfairly stole
this story for Enthiran',
the writer said the
film's director himself
had acknowledged in
several interviews that
he got the storyline in
1997. Claiming that he
was the first owner of
the story, Tamilnandan
said he should be
declared author and
copyright-holder of the
film Enthiran'. He
wanted the court to
award a compensation of
Rs 1 crore to him and
restrain the producers
and others from
screening and exhibiting
the film during the
pendency of the suit.
