Tamil writer seeks Rs 1cr from Enthiran' producers

 
 
 
 
 
CHENNAI: A Tamil writer, who had claimed that the storyline of Rajnikanth-starrer Enthiran' was stolen from his story Jugiba' and lodged a police complaint on October 25, has now approached the Madras high court demanding Rs 1 crore damages from the film's producers.

Enthiran, a Sun Pictures production, was released in three languages on October 1 and has been running to packed houses since then.

Aarur Tamilnandan, in his civil suit, said that he had penned Jugiba' in 1996 and it was published in a magazine Iniya Udayam' the same year. It was re-published with his permission in another magazine, Thik Thik Theepika', in 2007, he said.

Tamilnandan said that the original story talks about a scientist, Robin, and his robot Jugiba. It also elaborately deals with the robots' human characters and its love for his creator's girlfriend, he said.

Reiterating his allegation that the film crew had unfairly stole this story for Enthiran', the writer said the film's director himself had acknowledged in several interviews that he got the storyline in 1997. Claiming that he was the first owner of the story, Tamilnandan said he should be declared author and copyright-holder of the film Enthiran'. He wanted the court to award a compensation of Rs 1 crore to him and restrain the producers and others from screening and exhibiting the film during the pendency of the suit.
