Chennai - fastest growing city in India

Chennai. Oct. 15: Chennai figures in a list of
the world’s fastest-growing cities in the latest
issue of Forbes magazine. Only two other Indian
cities, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru, are in this
elite group. Chennai’s claim to fame stems from
impressive business and industrial growth that
has generated 100,000 jobs so far this year,
which Forbes notes is “more than any other
Indian city outside of the much larger Delhi and
Mumbai”. Projected to reach a population of ten
million by 2025 (presently about seven million),
Chennai’s metropolitan area “is taking full
advantage of India’s soaring industrial sector,
particularly the booming automobile sector,”
says Forbes, listing out some of the big names
that have the Tamil capital their second home —
Dell, Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, Siemens, Sony
and Foxconn. Thanks to blockbusters rolling out
every now and then, Forbes acknowledges
Chennai’s Kollywood as the second largest
entertainment hub in India, next to Mumbai. Also
there are huge investments happening in the IT
sectors.
