Gold coins with image of Big Temple released



THANJAVUR: The Union Minister of State for Finance, S.S.Palani Manickam, released gold coins with the image of the Big Temple, brought out by the State Bank of India to commemorate the millennium celebrations of the temple here on Friday. Kavitha, Joint Commissioner, HR and CE received the coins. The coins weighing two grams is priced at about Rs.4,000 each while a four gram coin costs Rs.8,000 each. The coins are sold with a special discount of one per cent. The Minister said the Central government during the millennium celebrations released five rupee coin with the image of the Big Temple. A postal stamp with the image of the temple was also released on the occasion. Now the State Bank of India has come out with gold coins to commemorate the occasion. These coins would serve as a souvenir. M.S.Shanmugham, Collector said that the millennium celebrations of the big temple was an important and historical event. The gold coin would be a fitting tribute to commemorate the services of Raja Raja Chola. The Collector also appealed to the people to purchase the coins. Mr. Venkateswaran, regional manager and Rajaram, assistant general manager of SBI, participated in the meeting.
