TN asks CBI to probe Jaya threats

Sept. 28: Accepting the demand of the AIADMK, the Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday decided to transfer to the CBI five cases related to repeated death threats to former chief minister J. Jayalalithaa. In a statement, the government said the Guindy police in the city had registered five cases based on complaints by AIADMK-backed Jaya TV’s vice-presidents Ranganathan and K.P. Sunil. Special teams had been formed and the investigation was being supervised by senior officials. “Yet, the government decided to transfer the cases following the plea by the AIADMK delegation, led by deputy leader of the Opposition O. Panneerselvam,” the statement said. The decision comes a day after former ministers Panneerselvam, K.A. Sengottaiyan and D. Jayakumar met chief secretary S. Malathi and home secretary K. Gnanadesikan with a memorandum stating that Jaya TV received three more threats.
