Efforts on to revive legislative council: CM

Chennai, Apr 7: TamilNadu
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today said efforts
would be made to revive the legislative council,
abolished by the AIADMK government headed by
then Chief Minister M G Ramachandran in 1986. "A
motion in this regard will soon be moved in the
Assembly. Once that is passed, I can assure you
the council will be formed," he informed the
legislative assembly in response to DMK MLA
Anitha Radhakrishnan's plea during a discussion
on the budget.

The chief minister recalled that the Upper
House, abolished by way of an announcement, had
some of the best 'brains' and was free from any
acrimonious scenes, an apparent reference to the
scenes witnessed today in the assembly,
resulting in suspension of AIADMK members till
Friday.
