Orchid Garden for Marina Beach
Chennai Mar 16: The Marina
Beach, one of the longest in the world, would
soon have an "Orchid Garden", on the lines of
the one in Singapore. This was announced by city
Mayor M Subramanian while presenting the 2010-11
budget for the corporation. The beach, a famous
tourist spot and a walker's paradise, was given
a face-lift under a beautification project last
year.

Following the footsteps of Tamil Nadu government, he
also announced a lot of freebies like free food for
patients admitted for delivery in corporation hospitals,
"compact safe bed" to all infants born in the civic
body-run hospitals and free geomentary boxes for high
school students. The Rs.1.73 crore deficit budget did
not contain any fresh taxation proposals
