Panguni Uthiram in Gujarat

Today, on the occasion of Panguni
Uthiram, thousands of Tamils will celebrate the
festival across Gujarat. This festival is
celebrated because the star Uthiram and Pournami
(full moon) will be seen together. Another
belief associated with this festival is that on
Panguni Uthiram the marriage of Parvati and
Parameshwaran, and Murugan and Deivanai are
solemnized. Today, in the temple of Lord
Subramanya or Murugan the devotees will carry,
‘Pal kavadi, Panneer kavadi, Pushpa kavadi.
According to K Kumaraswamy, the Inspector
General, Gujarat Police, the kavadi procession
will start Devasthanam at 7 am from Hatkeshwar
