Second World Tamil Economic Conference in Dubai
About 600 delegates from 45 countries are
expected to participate in the four-day forum
beginning Oct 1
Representatives of 90 million
Tamilians from the South Indian state of Tamil
Nadu and around the world will assemble in Dubai
for the Second World Tamil Economic Conference
2011 in Dubai to foster closer relationship
among the ten million strong overseas Tamil
population with their Indian counterparts.
Indian politics is currently centered on Tamil
Nadu politics, as a number of top politicians
from the South Indian state are embroiled in
major corruption controversies, but senior
politicians from South India like Jayanty
Natarajan, and Veerappa Moily, G K Vasan, V
Narayanaswamy, Vayalar Ravi and E Ahmed will be
participating in the Tamil Diaspora meet in
Dubai. Establishing a Tamil Chamber of commerce
in every major city of the world and
facilitating networking of Tamilians for mutual
support and development are among reasons cited
for organising the Tamil conference. Speaking to
news agencies, Dr V R S Sampath, Convener, World
Tamil Economic Foundation said the Non
Government Organization decided to convene their
second global conference in Dubai, owing to the
city’s right connections to Europe, America and
Asia, the pockets where Tamil expatriates,
especially Tamilian businessmen, are active. The
Conference aims to bring together
representatives of Tamilian population from
around the world. There are one million
Tamilians in the Middle East, 100000 Tamilians
in Australia, and one million Tamilians in
Europe and one million in North America. Madras
Development Society, another NGO active for the
Tamil cause, is also planning to form a Worlds
Tamil Economic Foundation.
“We have successfully conducted the first World
Tamil Economic Conference at Chennai in 2009,
which has been quite successful in fostering
better cooperation among the Tamil community
scattered all over the world. Many new projects
in Information Technology, Real Estate and
related areas have been materialized. Now for
the second conference at the Dubai International
Convention Center from October 1 to October 4,
2011, we expect participation of about 600
delegates from 45 countries. The event promises
to be an exciting opportunity for the delegates
from the Gulf as the event will bring key
industry leaders from all over the world to
their door step with a chance of personal
interaction and networking. Many leading
companies will be promoting their products and
services through special stalls at the
conference venue,” he added. The event is
scheduled from October 1 to October 4, 2011 at
the Dubai World Trade Centre. Investment and
business opportunities, funding sources for
projects, legal services, government policy and
community networking will be discussed during
the meet. Currently, Indian Politics is centered
on Tamil Nadu Politics and politicians, but they
will find time to participate in the three day
conference in Dubai. Ministers from the
Government of India, Government of Tamil Nadu
and other foreign Governments will be special
guests at the conference. The speakers at the
conference will include top ranking
personalities in Government, business and other
fields, from India and other countries. “Tamil
Nadu is preparing to go for local government
elections. Otherwise, we would have roped in
more ministers and politicians from Tamil Nadu,”
Sampath added.
