Those who have studied in Tamil medium have very
little chance of getting selected for Central
government jobs, other state governments or in
private sector and so preference need to be
given to them in state government services, it
said. After considering the resolution, the
government has decided to bring in a legislation
to set apart 20 per cent of vacancies in
appointment in state services to be filled
through direct recruitment of those who studied
in Tamil medium. The ordinance, promulgated by
Governor Surjit Singh Barnala on September 5,
seeks to give effect to the decision, the
notification said.
