Uthamaputhiran creates caste troubles

COIMBATORE: The latest Kollywood
comedy starring Dhanush, Rajinikanth's
son-in-law, has courted caste trouble in western
Tamil Nadu. Even as Rajinikanth's 'Endhiran' is
creating celluloid records, Dhanush's 'Uthamaputhiran'
(noble son) has triggered protests in the
textile city of Coimbatore over
''objectionable'' references to the Gounder
community. About 300 activists of the Kongunadu
Munnetra Kazhagam, party based on the
development of the Kongu region, besieged a
theatre showing the movie and also petitioned
the district collector to stop screening of the
movie. "The film features derisive dialogues
targeting the Gounder community. It portrays
Gounders as an illiterate and money-crazy
bunch," said GK Nagaraj, a senior functionary of
the outfit
