VCK demands autonomy for States

CHENNAI: The Viduthalai
Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) on Sunday demanded
that the country be made a confederation of
States. A resolution adopted in the Tamil
Sovereign conference here stated that every
State should be given autonomy. Contending that
India was an administrative structure created by
the British for their exploitation, the
resolution said several rights, including
linguistic rights and the right to sharing of
river water and mines, remained on paper. It
wanted the Union government to acknowledge that
the country had different nationalities, which
should be given due share. Demanding that States
be given 75 per cent share of revenue from
Central taxes and additional taxes, the party
wanted that the States also be given the right
to hoist the flags of State governments along
with the national flag in their headquarters.
The conference also vouched its support for
creation of Tamil Eelam.
