Veerappan remembered on death anniversary

SALEM: In what seemed as an
attempt to appropriate Veerappan’s Tamil
feelings, members of the Nam Tamizhar Iyakkam (
The new party floated by Kollywood director
Seeman) tried to rekindle memories of the
brigand’s saga by converging at his grave in
Moolakadu near Mettur and took oath to, “uplift
the dignity of Tamils”. Six years after the
brigands’ death in an STF encounter on October
18, 2004, the Nam Tamilar Iyakkam picked up from
where the Brigand’s wife Muthulakshmi left. With
her arrest by Karnataka police a year back the
memorial day of Veerappan was almost left
forgotten. While many wondered there would be
none to commemorate the brigand’s sixth death
anniversary, the Nam Tamizhar Iyakkam members
turned up and paid homage. Calling Veerappan,”
Ellai Katha Porali Veerappanar ( A revolutionary
who protected our borders)” the cadres of the
Tamil outfit took oath at the grave. “On Tamil -
our breadth we swear, On our guiding leader’s
history we swear , On the Sleeping lions we
swear, we will no longer be in indignity”. They
also pasted posters hailing Veerappan as “Ellai
Katha Porali Veerappanr” in many parts of Salem.
The party’s district convener Arun presided.
